You have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of savings and/or spending accounts on a pre-tax basis which lowers your taxable income. View the information below for important details and guidelines for the various accounts offered by RDTS.
The Health Savings Account (HSA) allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible medical, dental, and vision expenses. The CareFirst BlueChoice Advantage HSA 5 Medical Plan is qualified for an HSA. By contributing to an HSA you reduce your taxable income, so you pay less in taxes — which saves you money.
The IRS sets the maximum HSA contribution every calendar year.
For the 2024 calendar year, the maximums are as follows:
$4,150 for a single contract | $8,300 for a two person or family
$1,000 "Catch Up" contribution for those age 55+
If you wish to contribute to a Health Savings Account, you can open an HSA with Paylocity.
Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) helps you pay for health care or dependent care using tax-free dollars. Your contribution is deducted from your paycheck on a pre-tax basis and is deposited into the FSA. You can access the funds in your account to pay for eligible expenses.
You can contribute to a Health Care FSA if you enroll in one of the CareFirst OA POS plans that are not HSA eligible. Upon enrolling in a FSA you will receive a benefit card that you can use to pay for qualified medical, dental and vision expenses for yourself and your eligible tax dependents.
FSA Rollover Provision
To help eliminate the "use it or lose it" rule, the Health Care FSA includes a Rollover Provision. The Rollover Provision allows up to $640 of unused Health Care FSA funds to be rolled over to the next plan year after the conclusion of the plans run-out period (90 days). Any unused amount in excess of $640 remaining at the end of the run-out period will be forfeited.
Dependent Care FSA funds can be used to pay for qualified child and adult care services. If you contribute to a Dependent Care FSA you and your spouse must be working or actively looking for work.
